Oswego State men's lacrosse team falls to Oneonta, 12-11
Liverpool, NY: Oneonta scored the only three goals of the fourth quarter
to slip past the Oswego State men^Òs lacrosse team 12-11 on Wednesday,
April 2nd at the PathFinder Bank Sports Complex in Oswego.
The loss put the Lakers at 0-2 in the SUNY Athletic Conference and 2-6
overall, while the Red Dragons remained perfect in conference play at
2-0 and improved to 4-5 overall.
The Lakers led 11-9 heading into the final quarter, but the Red Dragon
defense kept Oswego State off of the board while chipping away at the
lead. Dave Coughlin made it a one-goal game scoring 3:01 into the final
period and the score would remain at 11-10 with Oswego State clinging to
the lead until the closing minutes. Mark Weber tied the game with a goal
with 1:33 remaining in regulation and hen 31 seconds later Brian Balash
(Auburn) broke the tie with an unassisted goal.
Oswego State had possession twice in the final minute, but was unable to
get the equalizer.
Laker goalie Dave Moore (Auburn) finished with 14 saves, while Oneonta
goalie Mike Louer made 16.
The Lakers held a 4-3 advantage after the first quarter and then carried
an 8-6 lead into the intermission. Oswego State build the lead to 10-6
with 2:39 remaining in the third quarter as Jeff Cottet (East Syracuse)
scored his first of two goals in the game. Oneonta would close to 10-9
before Cottet struck again with just seven seconds left in the period.
Scott Ferguson scored three times to lead Oswego State, while the Red
Dragons were led by Brian Balash who had four goals and one assist.
The Lakers will now embark on a six-game road trip with the first of
those contests coming on Saturday, April 5th at SUNY Farmingdale.
