Oswego State wins SUNYAC opener

The Oswego State men's lacrosse team built a three-goal lead in the lead in the third quarter and held on for an 11-9 win over Brockport in the SUNY Athletic Conference opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon at Laker Field in Oswego.

The Lakers took control in the third quarter with two goals by Mike Brewster and a man-up goal by Mike Strohm to build an 8-5 lead after the game was tied at halftime. The Laker defense and goaltender Judd Robinson kept Brockport off the board in the third period.

The teams traded two goals each early in the fourth quarter, before Brockport scored twice in a span of 10 seconds to pull within one at 10-9. The Lakers answered with Brewster's fifth goal of the game with 3:32 remaining and held on for the victory.

Brewster led Oswego State with five goals, and Mike Recor scored three for the Lakers. Mike Strohm, John Schumacher, and Cam Davoy also scored for Oswego State, and the Lakers were 2-for-6 in man-up opportunities in the contest.

Brockport was led by Pat Reilly with four goals and four assists. Adam Drypolcher scored three goals and Kyle Baker and Brad Cook had one goal each. The Golden Eagles were 2-for-11 on man-up situations and won 13 of 23 faceoffs in the contest.

Oswego State is now 2-6 overall and 1-0 in the conference, while Brockport fell to 5-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

The Lakers host Cortland Wednesday at 4 p.m.
