| PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Freshman attack Kyle Norchi led Plattsburgh State with four goals on Monday, but it wasn't enough as visiting Clarkson handed the Cardinals a 19-6 loss in their home opener at the Fieldhouse Lacrosse Complex. With the win, the Golden Knights improve to 2-5 overall and earned their first victory in five tries against a State University of the New York Athletic Conference team. Plattsburgh, meanwhile, saw its season-opening five-game winning streak come to an end. Greg Gibbons led the Clarkson offense with six goals and two assists for eight points. Tom Ross added four goals and two assists, and Brian Hoey contributed four goals and an assist. The Golden Knights jumped on Plattsburgh right away at the 13:57 mark on an unassisted goal by Ross, but Ryan Cavanagh tied it 19 seconds later. However, Gibbons scored twice to ignite a six-goal outburst over a 9-minute and 31-second span to help Clarkson take a commanding 7-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. Plattsburgh eventually closed within 11-6 with 6:08 remaining in the third quarter. But Clarkson ended the game with eight unanswered goals. Frank Sangiovanni also scored for the Cardinals, who were outshot 38 to 31. |
