The Game Story:
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. ~V Eight different players scored two or more goals, led
by junior Brian Atkins' (Adams/South Jefferson) four goals, as nationally
second-ranked Cortland completed the regular season with a 20-8 win in a
steady rain at Plattsburgh. Winners of their last nine games, the Red
Dragons (14-1, 6-0 SUNYAC) will host Potsdam in a SUNYAC tournament
semifinal contest Wednesday at a time to be announced.

Atkins finished with four goals and two assists, senior Adam Hughes (North
Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) recorded three goals and three assists and
sophomore Ryan Simensky (Locust Valley) tallied two goals and four assists.
Junior Mike Abbott (Syracuse/Nottingham) registered two goals and two
assists, won 11-of-16 faceoffs and grabbed a game-high 13 ground balls.

Freshman Chris Hannon (Baldwin) and junior Kyle Lambert (Brentwood) each
finished the game with two goals and one assist. Freshman Adam Hyde (West
Seneca/West Seneca East) and junior Drew Solomon (Plainedge) each scored
twice. Junior goalie Ben Gaebel (Deferiet/Carthage) stopped four shots in
the first half, and junior Bryan Scipione (East Meadow) recorded four saves
in the second half.

Senior Kenny Pierson (Brewster) and junior Zack Boyce (Rochester/Pittsford)
each scored twice for Plattsburgh (6-6, 2-4). Freshman Billy Hughes (East
Patchogue/Bellport) started in goal for the Cardinals. He made five saves
and allowed 10 goals in 17:55. Sophomore Brian Csorny (St. James/Smithtown)
played the final 42:05, recording 18 saves and permitting 10 goals.

Cortland led 4-0 in the game's first eight minutes and held a 7-1 lead after
one quarter. A three-goal spurt in the first three minutes of the second
quarter extended the lead to 10-1, and Cortland held an 11-2 lead before
three Plattsburgh goals in the final 2:31 of the half cut the Red Dragons'
advantage to 11-5 at halftime. Cortland, however, put the game away by
scoring all five goals of the third quarter. The Red Dragons outshot
Plattsburgh 13-1 in that period and 59-24 for the game. Cortland also
tallied 60 ground balls to 25 for the hosts.
