The Game Story:
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Pete Morgan and Kyle Norchi each had eight points to pace the Plattsburgh State men's lacrosse team to a 24-11 non-conference victory Saturday over SUNY Maritime in the Cardinals home opener at the Field House Lacrosse Complex. Plattsburgh won its fifth straight to improve to 8-1, setting a school record for best start through nine games. The Privateers drop to 2-7.

Morgan notched six goals and two assists, and Norchi had three tallies and five assists. Luke Weidlein registered four assists to extend his school career records to 223 points and 106 assists. Tommy Kilderry came off the Cardinal bench to net four goals.

Plattsburgh came out of the gates quickly by building a 7-1 first quarter lead. Kilderry and Morgan staked the hosts to a 2-0 lead until Colin Gallagher cut the deficit in half on a feed from Stephen Doherty with 6 minutes and 1 second to go. But 23 seconds later, Kilderry struck again that set off a five-goal run and the Cardinals were never threatened after that.

Anthony Mendez came off the bench to lead the Privateers with three goals and Doherty also had three points on three assists. Ryan Korb and Theo Greene contributed two goals apiece.

Plattsburgh also dominated in other phases of the game besides the scoreboard, including 70 to 35 in shots, 60 to 39 in ground balls and 23 to 15 in face-off wins.

The Cardinals' Ryan Price went 15-of-22 in face-offs and scooped up a game-best 16 ground balls. John Driscoll had 13 ground balls for Maritime.

Starting goalie Logan Carpenter made seven saves and allowed just two goals in 25:57 to pick up the victory. Danny Caufield, Joey Carni and Gordie Gehring also played in net and stopped three shots apiece.

Gallagher (15) and Keith Messina (11) combined to make 26 saves for the Privateers, who were 17 of 36 in clear opportunities.
