Potsdam State vs. Clarkson

The Game Story:
POTSDAM, N.Y. - Sophomore Jamie Settineri (Syracuse/Nottingham) scored
the go-ahead goal and made five assists as the SUNY Potsdam men's
lacrosse team defeated cross-town archrival Clarkson University, 10-7.
Freshman Justin Wilson-Kirby (Oakville, Ont./T.A. Blakelock) added
three goals for the Bears (1-0).

Playing in their season opener, the Bears scored eight second-half
goals after being down 4-2 at halftime. Settineri started a four-goal
run in the fourth period, scoring with 10:25 left to put Potsdam up
7-6. Senior goalkeeper Brian Hondorf (Webster-Schroeder/MCC) made 10
saves on the day, including six in the fourth to uphold the lead.

With 8:00 left, freshman Andy Deer (Vestal/Vestal) picked up a loose
ball and bounced it past Clarkson sophomore goalkeeper Eric Wolery
(Cincinnati, Oh./Lakota West) to make the score 8-6. Wilson-Kirby
scored with 5:47 remaining before junior George Nolan
(Marcellus/Marcellus) netted Potsdam's 10th goal with 1:53 left.

The Golden Knights (0-2) scored the game's first three goals,
including two by junior Jamie Merritt (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa),
before Potsdam freshman Kyle Phelix (North Lawrence/St. Lawrence
Central) and Wilson-Kirby trimmed the deficit to 3-2.

Sophomore Dave Uzialko (Lima/Honeoye Falls-Lima), senior Matt
Vaverchak (Binghamton/Seton Catholic) and Wilson-Kirby scored in the
third period to force a 5-5 tie heading into the fourth. Freshman Dan
MacRae (Oakville, Ont./Holy Trinity Catholic) scored 2:03 into the
final period, giving the Bears their first lead before Clarkson tied
the game at 6-6.

Nolan finished with a goal and an assist. Sophomores Ryan McHugh
(Saranac Lake/Saranac Lake) and Corey Reinhart (Albany/Colonie) also
had assists.

For Clarkson, Merritt and sophomore Cory Schneider (Yorktown/Yorktown)
scored two goals apiece. Sophomores Brian Hoey (Auburn/Auburn) and
Greg Gibbons (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) and freshman Brian Knecht
(Geneva/Geneva) also had goals while sophomore Tom Ross (Adams/South
Jefferson) made three assists. Wolery stopped seven shots.

The Bears will play again at home on Tuesday, March 20, against
Cazenovia. Game time is 4 p.m.
