CLARKSON EDGES POTSDAM 8-7

Potsdam, NY - Senior Midfielder Patrick Ryan (Canton, NY) scored four goals and one assist to lead the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team to its second straight one-goal victory as the Golden Knights defeated cross-town rival Potsdam College 8-7 at Hantz Field on Wednesday afternoon.

Trailing 5-4 at the half, Clarkson outscored the Bears 3-1 in the third quarter and then traded goals with Potsdam over the final 15 minutes to gain its third straight win over its neighbor. Ryan led the Green and Gold third-quarter charge, scoring all three Clarkson goals in the period.

Clarkson, which improved its record to 8-2, outshot Potsdam 33-22. Sophomore Joe Zebrowski (Liverpool, NY) posted 10 saves for the Knights, including four key stops over the final three minutes to preserve the one-goal victory.

Seniors Sean Pearce (Auburn, NY) and Matt Diana (Marshfield, MA), and freshmen TJ Drake (Rochester, NY) and AJ Heiligman (Webster, NY) each chipped in a goal for Clarkson.

Senior Josh Hickey led Potsdam with three goals, while Eric Lehman and Rob Peters scored two goals apiece for the Bears. Ryan Hanretty made 14 saves in the Potsdam goal.

Clarkson was 1-for-11 in man-up opportunities, while Potsdam was 1-of-3 with the extra man. The Knights controlled groundballs 42-24.

The Knights resume Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) play when they host league foe Union College this Saturday in a 2:00 p.m. game. Potsdam (6-3) returns to SUNYAC action at Oneonta State on Saturday.
