Potsdam opened up a 2-0 lead after the first quarter on goals by Travis Holmes (Jamesville-Dewitt/Herkimer CC) and Matt Vaverchak (Binghampton/Seton Catholic). Elmira began the second period with 2 goals from Ashton McLean (Scarborogh, ONT./Malvern) which temporarily tied the game at 2. Potsdam would quickly answer back with goals by Harrison Rogers (Grand Island/Grand Island) and Travis Holmes to end the half at 4-2 in favor of Potsdam. Holmes finished the game with three goals and an assist.
Elmira would strike first in the third period of play, with a score by way of Mike Szpiech (Hamilton, ONT./Albany Academy), but Potsdam would score three more times each in the third and forth quarters to put the game out of reach for Elmira.
Potsdam goaltender Brian Hondorf (Webster-Schroeder/MCC)) made 10 saves and allowed 6 goals in 58 minutes for the win. Elmira’s Alex Jacques (Bainbridge Island, WA/Malden Catholic) made 17 saves in the loss.
The Bears are back at home on Wednesday the 29th when they play host to cross-town rival Clarkson at 4pm.
