Potsdam Menís Lacrosse Slips to Hartwick

POTSDAM, NY- Visiting Hartwick broke an 8-8 tie in the fourth quarter as they held on to defeat the SUNY Potsdam menís lacrosse team 9-8 on Saturday afternoon.

Ben McCullough (Brampton, ONT/Turner-Fenton) led the Bears with three goals. Sean McAullife (Watertown, NY/JCC) had two. Garret Sharp (Canton/Canton Central), Ryan Paparella (Whitesboro/Whitesboro), and Robbie Ashlaw (North Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) all had one goal each.

Harry Hughes led the Hawks with three goals.

The teams went back and forth early in the game as neither could pull away. The Bears held a 3-2 lead after the first quarter before Hartwick scored three straight times in the second quarter for a 5-3 lead. Potsdam would answer back and score three straight times to take a 6-5 lead in the third quarter.

For the second time in the game, the Hawks would get three straight scores to go up 8-6. The Bears would fight back with goals from McCullough and McAullife to tie the game at 8-8 with 7:36 remaining. Hartwick would break the tie at 5:58. The Bears could only get one more shot the rest of the period as Hartwick controlled possession to run out the clock.

Potsdam (2-2) heads on the road to play Morrisville on Monday at 4 pm.
