Potsdam State vs. Cazenovia

The Game Story:
POTSDAM, N.Y. – SUNY Potsdam sophomore Corey Reinhart (Albany/Colonie) scored four goals and made two assists as the Bears’ men’s lacrosse team defeated Cazenovia College, 17-1, at Maxcy Hall. Freshman Kyle Phelix (North Lawrence/St. Lawrence Central) added three goals and an assist for the Bears (2-0).

Cazenovia (0-5) took its only lead 38 seconds into the game on a goal by junior Jonathan Rodak (Howell, N.J./Monsignor Donovan). The lead and 1-1 tie that followed were both short-lived as senior Matt Vaverchak (Binghamton/Seton Catholic) and Reinhart scored 43 seconds apart to give the Bears a 2-1 lead with 13:19 left in the first.

Sophomore Dave Uzialko (Lima/Honeoye Falls-Lima) and freshman Jordan Joncas (Kanata, Ont./Holy Trinity Catholic) put in two goals apiece for the Bears. Sophomore Andy Sauer (Liverpool/Cicero-North Syracuse) had a goal and an assist while junior Nik Bryan (Fairport/Fairport), sophomore Jamie Settineri (Syracuse/Nottingham) and freshmen Sean Sawyer (Rochester/Eastridge) and Evan Sovring (Liverpool/Oswego) scored one goal each.

Also for Potsdam, junior George Nolan (Marcellus/Marcellus) and sophomore Ryan McHugh (Saranac Lake/Saranac Lake) made two assists apiece. Senior goalie Tim Neer (Baldwinsville/Baldwinsville) earned the win, making one save in the first half. Billy Richards (Niskayuna/Niskayuna), a freshman, had two saves in relief while Wildcat starter Erik Tice (Leeds/Cairo-Durham) recorded 10 stops.

The Bears will play their next game Friday night against Elmira College at Cornell University. Game time is 7 p.m.
