| ASHLAND, VA .— R-MC’s Peter LaPaglia scored four goals and Tyler Watkins dished out five assists as the duo helped the Yellow Jackets to a 7-5 men’s lacrosse victory over Curry College (Mass.) Saturday afternoon in Ashland. R-MC (3-2) scored to the first goal of the game at the 7:20 mark of the first quarter when Watkins set up Billy Rowe for his 10th goal of the season. Curry tied the game at 1-1 with 5:20 left in the opening period when Robert Sacco struck for a goal. After Rowe put the Jackets back on top with his second goal five minutes into the second quarter, Curry tied the game up at 2-2 with 7:38 left in the half. LaPaglia sent R-MC to the locker room with a 3-2 half-time lead when he tallied his first goal of the game with 6:13 remaining in the second stanza. LaPaglia and Watkins then teamed up again to give the Jackets a 4-2 advantage with 6:28 remaining in the third quarter. Curry got back-to-back goals from Paul Marchese and Ryan Rooney to tie the game at 4-4 with 3:51 in the third. LaPaglia scored once again with just over two minutes remaining in the quarter to put R-MC out in front 5-4 and then Watkins set up LaPaglia for the first goal of the final quarter to push the Jackets ahead 6-4. The Yellow Jackets’ final goal of the game came off the stick of Paul Johnsen who was set up by Watkins with 8:17 to go in the game. R-MC out shot Curry 49-20 and held a 28-21 advantage in the ground ball battle. Curry keeper Alex MacMillan turned away 21 Yellow Jackets’ shots, while Adam Liberto made eight stops in the cage for Randolph-Macon. The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Thursday when it hosts Mount St. Joseph College at 4:00 p.m. |
