| andolph-Macon rallied from a three-goal deficit in the second quarter for a 9-8 victory over the No. 15 Denison Big Red in men's lacrosse action from Ashland, Va. Denison jumped out to a 3-0 lead after goals by Emmett Jones (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy), Nate Hall (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Uppser Arlington) and Nick Jacobs (Wilmington, Del/Tower Hill) in the first eight minutes of the first quarter. The Yellow Jackets responded with ta goal by Matt Andes and a man-up score by Kevin Patton with 5:56 to play in the opening period. Hall would spark another three goal streak by Denison at the 11:17 mark in the second quarter. Sophomores Tanner Smith (Boxford, Mass./Brooks School) and Jones followed Hall to give DU a 6-2 lead with 3:36 left until halftime. That's when Randolph-Macon made their move that was started by a Tyler Midwinter goal with 2:32 left in the quarter. A Patrick Egan score with 37 seconds left cut the lead to 6-4. The third quarter would belong to RMC as they shutout the Big Red 2-0 to tie the gam at 6-6. In the fourth quarter the Jackets scored their fifth unanswered goal to go up 7-6. Two minutes later Hall would counter with his third goal of the game off an assist from Brady Burton (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) but at the 8:15 mark Midwinter gave his team the lead back for good at 8-7. Burton would net his first goal of the game with 6:25 to play but that would be as close as the Big Red would get, eventually falling 9-8. |
