The Game Story:
ASHLAND, VA--The Roanoke College men's lacrosse team defeated the Randolph-Macon College Yellow Jackets, 20-11, on Wednesday afternoon in Ashland, VA. The Maroons improve to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The Yellow Jackets fall to 3-6 and 1-3 in league play. The win was the 27th in a row for the Maroons over Randolph-Macon. The Maroons lost the first meeting in the series, in 1972, but have won every game since.

The game was basically out of the Yellow Jackets reach after the first 15 minutes of play. The Maroons jumped out to a 9-3 lead after the first quarter. Freshman midfielder Chris Keating (Chatham, NJ/Chatham) got things rolling for the Maroons, getting a goal just 38 seconds into the contest off of an assist by junior Kris Davis (Parkton, MD/Hereford). Four minutes later Garrett Yaralian (Fripp Island, SC/Mt. Lakes (NJ)) made the score 2-0 and Dan Reed (Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington) and Colin Burke (Rancho Santa Fe, CA/Torrey Pines) made the score 4-0 in RC's favor before the game was seven minutes old. Burke's goal was his first of the season. The Yellow Jackets responded with three straight goals over the span of just 54 seconds. The Maroons regained control with five more scores in the final 4:57 of the first period. All nine of Roanoke's goals in the first quarter were assisted. Davis finished the first 15 minutes of play with a goal and three assists.

The second quarter also belonged to the Maroons. Roanoke scored six more times and at the end of the first half owned a commanding 15-6 lead. Eddie Jones (Fairfax, VA/Fairfax) scored his first career goal to lead off the second period and Reed would score three times in the frame. Yaralian, Keating, and Jeff Pattison (Mercer Island, WA/Mercer Island) all scored goals in the third period, to just one for the Yellow Jackets, as the Maroons extended their lead to 18-7. Sam McLeod (Midland, VA/Liberty) was the lone Maroon to get a goal in the fourth, but the Maroons still took home the nine-goal victory.

Reed finished the game with five goals, while Davis had a career-high six assists. Yaralian ended the day with a career-high four goals and added an assist. Keating scored twice and assisted on four goals. Roanoke goalies combined to make nine saves on the day, seven coming from red-hot Tim Morse (Santa Fe, NM/Tabor).

The Maroons are back in action on Saturday as they host the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan College. The Marlins are 8-2 on the season and are receiving votes in the latest Division III polls. The Maroons have won two straight in the series with the Marlins. The ODAC game begins at 1:00pm in Salem, VA.
