Rit vs. Cortland State

The Game Story:
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Adam Hughes scored two goals and added four assists and Craig Degnan added two goals and four assists to lead No. 6 Cortland to a 15-9 non-conference victory at No. 22 Rochester Institute of Technology Saturday afternoon.

The loss snapped RIT's six-game winning streak, while Cortland won their eighth-straight since an 8-7 loss at No. 7 Gettysburg on March 15.

Cortland jumped ahead 1-0 just 34 seconds into the first quarter on Derek Elvin's unassisted goal. The Red Dragons made it 2-0 at 11:18 on Adam Hughes' man-up goal from Elvin.

RIT got on the board at 10:59 on the first of four Chris Copeland goals on the afternoon from Ryan Neward. However, the Red Dragons scored three of the final four goals of the first quarter including the final goal with just 14 seconds remaining when Derek Elvin's pass across the goal deflected off an RIT defenseman and into the net to take a 5-2 advantage.

Cortland scored the first two goals of the second quarter on a goal by Andrew Roth from Craig Degnan 43 seconds into the quarter and then after an eight-minute scoreless streak Degnan scored from Mike Bryant to take a 7-2 lead.

RIT battled back to cut the lead to 7-6 with 12:55 remaining in the third quarter. RIT scored three goals to close out the second quarter from Dan Papsidero and then a pair from Copeland and then Dave Griffin scored the fourth unanswered goal 2:05 into the third quarter.

Cortland squashed the Tigers' run answering right back scoring the next three goals from Kyle Lambert, Justin Miller and Hughes to regain a four-goal lead at 10-6 with 7:59 to go in the third. Ryan Neward scored at the 7:42 mark for the Tigers, but Cortland's Hughes and Elvin answered back with the final the final two goals of the third quarter to hold a 12-7 lead.

After Degnan scored the first goal of the fourth to put Cortland ahead 13-7, RIT's Copeland and Neward closed the gap to 13-9 with 6:42 to go in the game. RIT won the next face-off but Cortland goalie Steve Feltman recorded one of his 18 saves on the day stopping Mike Zirrolli on a fast-break off the face-off win. Cortland's Lambert scored on the transition play and then Andrew Pultz won the last two face-offs to give the Red Dragons' possession.

RIT goalie Jon Sinclair stopped 12 shots and allowed all 15 goals on the afternoon.

RIT hosts Nazareth on Saturday April 19 at 1 p.m., while Cortland travels to Brockport on April 16 at 4 p.m.
