Rit vs. Ithaca

The Game Story:
ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (5-5, 3-1 E8) men's lacrosse had a four game winning streak snapped on Wednesday with a 13-4 loss to Ithaca College (6-4, 4-0 E8). The Tigers out shot the Bombers 45-30 but were held scoreless in the first half.

RIT had the ball for the majority of the time in the opening quarter. The Tigers had five shots on goal that were stopped by Ithaca goalie Dennis Butler (Pleasantville, NY).

Matt Casey (Syracuse, NY) gave the Bombers a 1-0 lead with 11:45 to play in the opening quarter. Casey split RIT's defense off the clear and fired a shot past RIT goalie John Foley (Guelph, Ontario/Our Lady of Lourdes).

Logan Bobzien (Littleton, CO) tallied a pair of goals late in the first quarter giving Ithaca a 3-0 lead after the first quarter.

The second quarter saw RIT fall behind 5-0 as Jeff Slack (Massena, NY) and Brian Weil (Amherst, NY) each tallied a goal.

RIT had 14 shots in the second quarter but only two went on net, as RIT went to halftime trailing 5-0.

The Tigers finally got on the board with 10:02 to play in the third quarter. Freshman Andrew Ruocco (Corning, NY/Corning East) drove the cage and bulled his way in tight. He rolled and scored as he was leaping into the crease, cutting Ithaca's lead to 5-1.

Bobzien and Weil answered right back for the Bombers, increasing their lead to 7-1.

David Thering (Fairport, NY/Fairport) scored on a nice individual effort with 1:58 to play in the third, cutting Ithaca's lead to 7-2.

Matt Casey tallied an unassisted man-up goal with two seconds to play in the third giving Ithaca an 8-2 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Weil scored a pair of goals to open the fourth quarter, breaking the game open for Ithaca.

Joe Argese (Jordan, NY/Jordan-Elbridge) scored on an assist from Thering with 9:58 to play, making it 11-3 in favor of Ithaca.

Brandon Wilkin (Penfield, NY/Penfield) scored RIT's lone man-up goal on an assist from Ruocco closing out the scoring for RIT.

The Tigers won 15-of-20 face-offs and had 41 ground balls to Ithaca's 31. RIT went 1-for-9 on the man-up, while Ithaca went 5-for-9 on the man advantage.

John Foley got the start in goal for RIT, making four saves and allwing five goals. Brad Conlon (Ottawa, Ontario/Bridgton Academy) played the second half and made four saves, allowing eight goals.

Dennis Butler was outstanding, playing all 60 minutes for Ithaca, making 16 saves and allowing just four goals.
