Rit vs. Nazareth

The Game Story:
ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT men's lacrosse team was defeated by Nazareth College 12-10 in Empire 8 action on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops RIT to 9-6 overall and 4-3 in the Empire 8 and eliminates the Tigers from the Empire 8 tournament. Nazareth clinches the fourth seed in next month's Empire 8 tournament.

RIT lost despite out shooting the Golden Flyers 45-37. Nazareth won the ground ball battle 54-48 and won 12-of-23 face-offs. RIT went 1-for-5 with the man advantage and turned the ball over 30 times. Nazareth went 2-for-8 on man-up opportunities and turned the ball over 41 times.

David Burke (Fairport, NY) and Adam Vlassis (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) led RIT with two goals apiece. Iric Bressler (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) and Tanner King (Virginia Beach, VA/Corning East) each had a goal and an assist. Burke finished with two goals and an assist, grabbed five ground balls and caused a turnover.

Kevin Rattigan (Chicago, IL/Western Reserve Academy) took the loss, allowing 12 goals and making 12 saves. M.J. Kiekebelt (Caledon, ON/St. Andrew's College-Aurora) had eight ground balls, five caused turnovers a goal and went 5-6 on face-offs.

RIT trailed 4-3 at the half and tied the game at 4-4 early in the third quarter when David Burke tallied a man-up goal 17 seconds into the quarter.

But the Flyers ran off six straight goals in the third quarter which proved to be the difference in the game. C.J. Estes scored two fast-break goals in the six-goal stretch, finishing with three points.

Mark DeCirce led the Golden Flyers with four goals. Joe Jacobs-Ferderbar had two goals and two assists and Sean Dennison had two goals and three assists. Todd Dermody was outstanding in net for Nazareth, allowing 10 goals and making 18 saves.
The Tigers fought back late in the fourth quarter, scoring five straight goals in the final 3:14 seconds. But it was too little too late for RIT who came up two goals shy.

The Tigers close out the regular season on Wednesday, April 28 when they face Elmira College at 4 pm in Elmira, NY
