|ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT men's lacrosse team snapped a two-game losing streak with a 10-5 win over SUNY Oswego on Wednesday afternoon. Andy Ruocco (Corning, NY/Corning East) and Sean Gillies (Oakville, ON/Albany Academy) led RIT, now 2-2 on the season, with three goals apiece.|
RIT outshot the Lakers 47-18 and won the ground ball battle 59-34. The Tigers went 14-of-19 on face-offs, 28-for-34 on clearing attempts and scored three man-up goals.
Oswego took a 1-0 lead early in the first quarter before Andrew Ruocco scored the first of his three goals on an assist from Braden Hergott (Edmonton, AB/Holy Trinity).
Mike Brewster gave Oswego a 2-1 lead on an assist from Kevin Furletti with 2:25 remaining in the opening quarter.
The second quarter belonged to the Tigers as they rattled off four straight goal, taking a 5-2 lead into halftime.
David Burke (Fairport, NY) tallied an unassisted goal at the 13:17 mark to tie the score at 2-2. Gillies tallied his first goal on an assist from Ruocco at 11:37 of the second, giving RIT their first lead of the afternoon at 3-2.
Ruocco scored his second goal of the game on an assist from Chirs Ferry (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) at the 8:08 mark, extending the Tigers lead to 4-2.
Gillies rounded out the first half scoring with his second of the quarter on an assist from Ruocco at the 8:00 minute mark, making it 5-2 RIT.
The Lakers came back in the third quarter, cutting into RIT's lead with a pair of goals. Mike Recor scored on an assist from John Schumacher making it 5-3 RIT.
Mike Strohm scored on a botched clearing attempt by the Tigers at the 3:58 mark of the third, maing it 5-4 RIT.
The Tigers responded with four goals in the fourth quarter, pulling away. Dan Rago (Geneva, NY) and Gillies scored man-up goals at 13:27 and 9:17 respectively to extend the Tigers lead out to three goals at 8-4.
Tanner King (Virginia Beach, VA/Corning East) scored his first collegiate goal at the 7:11 mark of the fourth on an assist from Gillies, making it 9-4 RIT.
Burke put the game away with his tally of the game with 1:10 remaining in the contest, making it 10-4.
Nick Zoyhofski tallied a late goal for Oswego, making the final score 10-5.
Jacob Brunner (Lafayette, NY) and Phil Davenport (New Market, MD/Linganore) led RIT with seven ground balls apiece. Brunner also won 14-of-19 face-offs.
Brad Conlon (Ottawa, ON/Bridgton Academy) got the start in net for RIT, making seven saves picking up his second win of the season. Judd Robinson took the loss for Oswego, making 19 saves.
RIT will host Hartwick College on Saturday afternoon at 1 pm in the EMpire 8 opener at RIT's Turf Field.
