|ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (5-0) men's lacrosse team held SUNY Oswego (1-3) to 15 total shots and four goals as the #7 Tigers defeated the Lakers 14-4 on a cold but sunny afternoon at RIT's Turf Field. Senior co-captain Zach Bednarz (Webster, NY/Webster) led RIT with four goals on Saturday.|
RIT led 7-2 at half time, thanks to five first-quarter goals. Bednarz gave RIT a 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the contest. Andy Ruocco (Corning, NY/Corning East) provided the bulk of the offense in the opening stanza, scoring three times.
Phil Davenport's (Linganore, MD/Linganore) goal with 29 seconds to play in the quarter proved to be the game-winning goal. Davenport had a strong game for RIT, scoring the one goal and picking up a game-high 10 ground balls.
RIT's offense struggled a bit in the second quarter, tallying just two goals despite 19 shots. Bednarz and Eric Pritchard (Webster, NY/Webster) each lit the lamp for RIT. RIT's defense was excellent in the first half, allowing just two goals and eight shots by the Lakers.
RIT controlled the bulk of the play in the second half, limiting SUNY Oswego to seven shots and two goals in the half.
The Tigers scored three times in the third quarter, two from co-captain David Thering (Fairport, NY/Fairport) and one from Pritchard.
Bednarz scored two of his four goals in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach. Thering and Pritchard each had a goal in a four-goal fourth quarter for the Tigers.
RIT out shot SUNY Oswego 61-15. Aside from Bednarz' four goals, Pritchard, Ruocco and Thering each had three goals apiece. Thering added three assists, while Pritchard and Ruocco each had a pair of helpers.
The Tigers went 2-for-8 with the extra man advantage, while holding the Lakers to 2-for-4 with the man advantage.
One bright spot for the Lakers came on face-offs as they won 12 of 21 draws. Eric Pfister made 19 saves for SUNY Oswego, allowing 14 goals.
John Schumacher had two goals for SUNY Oswego. Chris Mitchell had a goal and an assist and Steve Tronovitch had an assist.
John Foley (Guelph, ON/Our Lady of Lourdes) made four saves, allowing four goals picking up his ffth win of the season. Brad Conlon (Ottawa, ON/Bridgeton Academy) played the final 10:23 of the contest, making four saves.
