SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke scored eight second-quarter goals to highlight a 19-10 victory over Franklin & Marshall Saturday afternoon at Kerr Stadium. The Maroons improve to 4-0 on the season while the Diplomats dropped its season-opener (0-1).
The Maroons, who have played against four teams in their season-openers, held a 48-27 shots advantage, 16-2 alone in the second period. They also had a 53-30 groundballs advantage, 15-5 in the second quarter.
Roanoke won 20-of-31 face-offs and 18-of-19 in clear attempts. The men were 4-for-7 in extra man opportunities, as the Maroons are now 2-2 against the Diplomats.
Matt Quinton (Elora, Ontario, Canada, Kitchener Braves)led Roanoke with a season-high five goals. He moved into 21st on the all-time scoring list (132pts) and 12th on the career goals list at Roanoke (107). Trey Keeley (Lancaster, PA, Conestaga Valley High School)had three goals, followed by Ashton Hotchkiss (Darien, CT, Darien)with two goals and an assist.
Brian Foley (Charlotte, NC, Myers Park)and Steve Furdock (Birmingham, MI, Birmingham Seaholm)added a goal and two assists apiece while Richard Lachlan (Port Coquitlam, B.C., Terry Fox Secondary)had two goals. Sam Love (Berwyn Heights, MD, Dematha)had a goal and an assist for his first multi-point game of his career along with six groundballs. Stephen Simmons (West Friendship, MD, Mt. St. Joseph)collected six groundballs.
Greg Khanzadian (Syracuse, NY, Christian Brothers)won 11-of-17 face-offs with eight groundballs while Justin Tuma (Bloomfield Hills, MI, Lahser)collected a team-best nine groundballs and won 9-of-14 face-off attempts.
Jake Dorsey (Woodbine, MD, Mt. St. Joseph)had four saves in goal for Roanoke. Chris Marcozzi had five stops for Franklin & Marshall.
Tristan Miller led F&M with four goals. Colin McKew finished with two goals and three assists to lead the Diplomats while Kevin Kilpatrick added two goals and one assist.
The men return to action next Saturday as they host Cabrini at Kerr Stadium. The Maroons are 2-1 against the Cavaliers, claiming a 16-13 decision last year on the road. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
