|SALEM, VA--The Roanoke College men^̉s lacrosse team got goals from 20
different players in a 30-5 win over Guilford College on Saturday
afternoon in Salem, VA. The Maroons improve to 9-4 overall on the season
and 4-2 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Guilford falls to 5-8
and 0-5 in ODAC action.
The Maroons opened the scoring in the contest on a goal from Brian Gallagher (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) just over two minutes into the game. The Quakers quickly tied the score at one on a goal from leading scorer Josh Miller, but the Maroons would score the next eight goals of the period to take a 9-1 lead after one. The second quarter was all Roanoke, with the host team outscoring the Quakers 10-0 to take a 19-1 lead at the break.
The Maroons slowed the pace down in the second half of play and in the third period played the Quakers to a 2-2 tie. With the Roanoke starters on the bench in the fourth, the Maroons outscored the Quakers 9-2 over the final 15 minutes of play. Roanoke reserve goalie Scott Lindberg (Manilus, NY/Fayetteville-Manilus) played the entire fourth in goal, making four saves while allowing just two goals.
Out of the 20 Roanoke players to score in the contest, two, Brian Gallagher and Wes McFarlane (Nanaimo, BC, Canada/Western Reserve) were defenders and six were players that had not scored a goal all season. Freshman attackman Owen Jordan (Bel air, MD/John Carroll) finished the day with a goal and two assists, while fellow first-year player Nic Towson (Olney, MD/Sherwood) scored a goal and added an assist.
Greg Hinkleman (Arnold, MD/Archbishop Spalding), RJ Constantino (Alexandria, VA/Bishop O^̉Connell), Mike Miginsky (Waterford, VA/Loudoun Valley), and Brandon Woulfe (Ft. Lauderdale, FL/Pine Crest) all scored their first goals of the season in the victory. Constantino also added 10 face-off wins for the Maroons.
Roanoke is off until April 27th when it plays in the semifinals of the ODAC tournament. An opponent, a site, and a time for the game are still yet to be determined.
