Roanoke vs. Kenyon
February 23, 2013
The Game Story:
SALEM, Va. – Facing an early 4-0 deficit, the Kenyon College Lords lacrosse team clawed its way back into Saturday's game against the host and No. 11-ranked Roanoke College Maroons. Midway through the third quarter, Kenyon trailed by just two, but Roanoke responded with five straight scores and went on to a 13-5 victory.

Kenyon (0-2) couldn't get anything together in the first quarter and watched Roanoke (1-1) sprint to a 4-0 lead. The Lords finally got on the board with a man-up goal from freshman Trey Trudell. That goal, which was set up by senior Chris Pappalardo, came at the 8:59 mark of the second quarter. Both teams pinned one more goal on the scoreboard before the break and Roanoke headed to the locker room with a 5-2 lead.

In the third quarter, Kenyon junior Will Lowe pulled the Lords within two. He scored unassisted goals at the 10:25 mark and at the 7:10 mark to cut the Roanoke lead to 6-4. Those goals, however, only served as a wake-up call for the Maroons, who rattled off five straight and moved ahead 11-5.

Lowe scored the Lords' final goal on an assist from Pappalardo at the end of the third quarter. Roanoke then tacked on two more tallies in the fourth to finalize all scoring. Kenyon's only other goal, back in the second quarter, was scored by sophomore Justin Coleman, who now has four on the season and shares the team lead with Lowe.

Although Kenyon's offense struggled against Roanoke, freshman Jared Jacobs did his best to set up his squad for success. Throughout the contest, Jacobs won 14 of his 20 face-offs and also scooped up a team-high seven ground balls.

In net, Kenyon junior Fletcher Franklin was peppered with 51 shots. Twenty-six of those shots were on goal and Franklin saved half of them.

The Lords return to action Tuesday in their first home game of the season. They'll host the Washington & Jefferson College Presidents at 3 p.m. on McBride Field.
