| ROANOKE, VA - Behind four goals and three assists from sophomore
Brandon Childs (Baltimore, MD/St. Paul's), the Lynchburg College men's
lacrosse team was able to withstand a late charge and hold on Saturday for a
17-16 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win at Roanoke.
LC led the entire game, with leads of 8-1 after one period and 12-5 at halftime. The Hornets opened a 16-9 advantage entering the final stanza, and led 17-12 with 1:15 left on the game clock. The Maroons scored four goals before the final gun, the last with three seconds left. Sophomore Kevin Reinecke (Crofton, MD/Arundel) posted four goals, while freshman Billy McCulloch (Annandale, VA/W.T. Woodson) had three goals and an assist. Kip Campbell (Fork Union, VA/FUMA) and Chase Gompers (Crofton, MD/Arundel) each had two goals and an assist, while Paul Venturella (Millersville, MD/Old Mill) assisted on three scores. Rob Onda (Sykesville, MD/South Carroll) and Charlie Enman (Hackettstown, NJ/West Morris Central) each had one score, while Chris Johnson (Chantilly, VA/Centreville) made a season-high 21 stops in net. Roanoke outshot LC 48-36, while the Hornets held a 40-39 advantage in ground balls. Roanoke capitalized on two of its four extra-man opportunities, and LC scored on two of its six chances. Kris Davis scored six times for the Maroons (8-6/3-3 ODAC). The Hornets (11-3/4-2 ODAC) enter the ODAC Tournament as the third seed, and travel to #2 Washington & Lee University Tuesday for a first-round matchup. |
