Roanoke vs. Muhlenberg

The Game Story:
SALEM, VA--The Roanoke College men^s lacrosse team outscored Muhlenberg College 7-1 in each of the first two quarters and led by as many as 17 goals in a 21-8 victory on Wednesday afternoon in Salem, VA. The Maroons, who are ranked 12th in the latest Division III coaches poll, improve to 3-0 overall on the season, while the Mules, who were squaring off against Roanoke for the first time, fall to 1-1 overall.

Roanoke sophomore Chris Keating (Chatham, NJ/Chatham) opened the scoring with 12:38 remaining in the first quarter, the first of six consecutive Maroon goals to start off the contest. The six goals were scored by six different players, including Garrett Yaralian (Fripp Island, SC/Mt. Lakes), who assisted on Keating^s game-opening tally. Maroon freshman Brendan Moore (Columbia, MD/Mt. Hebron) capped the scoring run with his first collegiate goal. Moore^s goal would be the first of four he would score on the day, all four coming in the first half of play. Moore would also go on to add three assists for a seven-point day.

After the Mules cut the Maroon lead to 6-1, senior Kris Davis (Parkton, MD/Hereford) scored his second goal of the season to give Roanoke a 7-1 edge after one. The host would win the second period by that same score, with Dan Reed (Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington), Pat Hurley (Amherst, NY/Amherst), and Jon Mason (Orangeville, ONT, Canada/Orangeville) all getting goals. The Maroon lead was 14-2 at the break and on a Mason goal with 12:50 to play in the fourth quarter got out to 20-3. With Maroon reserves in the game in the latter stages, the Mules scored five of the final six goals to make the score 21-8.

In addition to Moore^s seven points, Roanoke also got five points out of senior Jeff Pattison (Mercer Island, WA/Mercer Island) who had a goal and four assists. Yaralian had two goals and four assists, while Adam Saunders (Wayne, PA/Conestoga) added a goal and two assists. Mike Chase (Webster, NY/Webster) scored twice for the Maroons. The Maroons also got a team goal after the MC goalie put the ball in the cage himself. Sophomore goalie Matt Madalon (Darien, CT/Darien) finished the contest with 11 saves, while allowing just three goals for Roanoke.

Dave Armstrong scored three times for the Mules with Galen Marsh adding two and James Robinson and Kevin Kessler one each. Gavin Crecenzo started in goal for Muhlenberg, making 10 saves in the first half, seven in the second quarter.

Roanoke is back in action this coming Sunday as the top-ranked Sea Gulls of Salisbury University head to Salem for a 1:00pm contest. The game will be played on Roanoke^s Alumni Field.
