|The men’s lacrosse team defeated Hood, 31-2 at Donald J. Kerr Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Maroons improved to 7-4 on the season while the Blazers dropped to 0-14.|
Roanoke outshot the Blazers, 70-8 and set a new season-high in groundballs, winning the battle 78-12. The Maroons were 35-of-37 on clear attempts and scored 30 goals for the first time since 1994.
The Maroons dominated from the start, scoring the first 21 goals before Hood scored with 1:58 left in the first half. Matt Quinton scored off an assist from Chas Carlson just before the half to make it, 22-1.
The Maroons put in the reserves and scored eight goals in the third period to make the score, 30-1 heading into the final period when the Maroons called off the dogs again and held the ball for the rest of the game.
15 players scored for the Maroons this afternoon, including Noah Gibby and Trey Keeley with career-highs of three goals each with Keeley adding an assist. Tim O’Brien and Joseph Coretti had their first multi-goal games of their careers with two apiece.
Roanoke was led by Quinton with five goals and three assists. Pat March added five goals on the afternoon for the Maroons. Josh Rea had one goal, eight groundballs and won all 10 of her face-offs.
Billy Cameron finished the afternoon with two goals, a team-high 11 groundballs and won 15-of-16 face-offs. He now moves into second all-time in groundballs with 403 for his career.
Carlson finished with one goal and four assists before calling it a day. He is two points shy of passing Colin McGharen ’93 for 17th on the all-time scoring list at Roanoke.
The men will travel to Hampden-Sydney on Saturday, April 12 in a big ODAC contest starting at 1 p.m. The Maroons are 24-9 all-time vs. the Tigers and have won the last five meetings.
