Roger Williams vs. Williams
April 13, 2005
The Game Story:
Bristol, RI...The Roger Williams men’s lacrosse team jumped out to a 3-0 lead just six minutes into the game, but watched as perennial New England power Williams College answered with 12 straight to halt the Hawks’ winning streak and go away with a 12-5 victory.

Lee Bischoff (Houston, TX) got the Hawks on the board early on an assist from Dave Plescia (Old Tappan, NJ) and Ross Baker (S. Hadley, MA) followed up with a goal less than two minutes later. The royal blue and gold appeared to be in control in the early going when Plescia scored on an assist from Eddie Huydic (Fairfield, CT), giving them a 3-1 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Ephs came storming back with three second quarter goals to take a 4-3 lead into the break.

The third quarter was all Williams as Mike Lewen (Pittsburgh, PA), Dixon Hargrove (Wallingford, PA), Chris Merwin (Baltimore, MD), Geoff McNally (Sudbury, MA), and Corey Whitbeck (Hudson, NY) each found the net to give the Ephs a comfortable 10-3 lead heading into the fourth. Merwin scored two goals in the Ephs’ big third quarter run.

After the Ephs tacked on two more goals in the fourth, Hawks senior Doug D’Auria (Wilton, CT) snapped the RWU scoring draught on an assist from Baker, and Huydic followed up at the 3:37 mark with a tally on an assist from Bischoff. However, that was as close as the Hawks would get.

Mike Vrla (Paradise Valley, AZ), Matt Paster (Smithtown, NY), and Merwin led Williams with two goals apiece, while Hargrove finished with a goal and three assists. The Hawks received a goal and an assist each from Huydic, Bischoff, Baker, and Plescia. Bobby Hensley (Simsbury, CT) made 20 saves for RWU, who falls to 5-6 on the year.
