| JUPITER, Fla. – Freshman Colin Fortuner scored the first three goals of his career to lead a balanced attack and the #17 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's lacrosse team defeated Centenary College, 13-3. Eleven different student-athletes had at least a point for the Engineers, who improved to 4-0. The Cyclones fall to 1-3. A midfielder, Fortuner (Litchfield, CT / The Master's School) was one of three RPI players to register their first career goals. Attackmen John Nolan (East Hampton, NY / East Hampton High School) and Connor Sullivan (Bedford, NH / Bedford High School), both of whom are freshmen, were the others. Rensselaer broke out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter and a 5-0 edge in the second before Centenary got on the board. The Engineers carried a 7-1 lead into halftime and made it a 9-1 game with just a quarter to play. RPI outscored the Cyclones by two (4-2) in the final period for the 10-goal victory. In addition to Fortuner, others with multiple points for Rensselaer were senior attack Andrew Miller (New Hartford, NY / New Hartford), who had two goals and an assist, senior midfielder Andrew Liptak (Westfield, MA / Westfield), who had a pair of goals, and junior attack David Hey (Chapel Hill, NC / Durham Academy), who notched a goal and an assist. Junior James Manchester (Niskayuna, NY / Niskayuna) earned the win by making four saves on five shots in the first 25 minutes. For Centenary, senior Kyle McVay (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick Twp.) had 15 saves in three quarters of action. Offensively for the Cyclones, junior Conor Nolan (Hillsborough, N.J. / Immaculata) had a goal and an assist, while two others had single goals. |
