| TROY, N.Y. – Junior attack PJ McComb (Newington, CT/Newington) notched two goals and seven assists to lead Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) to a 16-3 victory over Vassar College in a Liberty League men’s lacrosse game at Ned Harkness Field. With the win the Red Hawks kept their overall record perfect at 5-0, including a 1-0 Liberty League mark. The visiting Brewers fall to 0-7 and 0-1. Rensselaer scored six goals in the first quarter – including a goal and three assists from McComb – and five in the second for an 11-0 lead at halftime. After Vassar got on the board early in the third quarter, RPI scored the next five goals in the frame for a 16-1 lead after three. The Red Hawks’ leading goal scorers were juniors Briggs Thompson (South Lyme, CT/East Lyme), who had four goals, and Alex MacDiarmid (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford), who had three. Thompson also had an assist. Junior John Thibdeau (Altamont, NY/Bethlehem) earned the win in goal, making one save in 30 minutes of action. He is now 5-0. Three others played the final 30 minutes. Freshman Ed Pappo (Malvern, NY/Conestoga) stopped 17 shots for the Brewers, including seven in the second quarter. Offensively, three players had a goal each, including Tristan Jemiolo (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington), who scored as the final buzzer sounded. Rensselaer continues its four-game homestand with a non-league game on Wednesday against Lasell at 4pm. Vassar is scheduled to host Farmingdale on Wednesday afternoon at 4pm. |
