The Game Story:
TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men’s lacrosse team made its East Campus Stadium debut a successful one, defeating Mount Saint Mary College, 25-1, in the season opener for both teams. Not only was the game the season debut for the visitors, it was the first in program history as they play their inaugural campaign.

RPI controlled the game throughout, scoring seven goals in the first quarter, eight in the second and 10 in the third. The Engineers held a 63-8 shot advantage and a 69-23 edge in ground balls.

For Rensselaer, 19 players found the score sheet with 12 players recording multiple points. Freshman attack David Hey (Chapel Hill, NC/Durham Academy) had three goals with one assist for a game-high four points on eight shots to lead the way. Senior midfielder Paul Cerone (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) had two goals and two assists in limited action, while sophomore attack Will Fales (Los Gatos, CA/Los Gatos) scored three goals.

Freshman Travis Armiger (Malvern, PA/Conestoga) won 12 of 14 faceoffs and picked up a game-high nine ground balls for the Engineers. Three goalies saw action, with sophomore John Yen (Short Hills, NJ/Millburn) making the lone save.

For the Blue Knights, sophomore goalie Zach Shaw (Dumont, NJ/Palisades Park) made 17 saves, including eight in the first quarter. Freshman Andrew Pullen (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) scored the goal – the first in the program’s history – and sophomore Andrew Imbasciani (Walden, NY/Valley Central) picked up a team-best four ground balls.

RPI is back in action on Saturday afternoon when it hosts Rochester Institute of Technology at 1pm at the East Campus Stadium. Mount Saint Mary also plays next on Saturday, traveling to face Lebanon Valley College in Elizabethtown, Pa.
