Salisbury vs. Catholic
February 23, 2003
The Game Story:
Salisbury, Md - Freshman Dan Boyer (Millersville, MD/Mt. St. Joseph HS) scored nine goals in his collegiate debut and Salisbury recorded the sixth shutout in team history with a 23-0 win over Catholic in the season and conference opener for both teams.

Boyer, who scored on nine of his 10 shots, including six straight in the third quarter, finished two goals shy of the Salisbury single-game record, set by Dave Cottle against the University of Baltimore in 1976.

The shutout is the first for the Sea Gulls (1-0) since blanking Mary Washington 11-0 in 1997. Three goalies combined on the shutout, with sophomore starter Dan Korpon registering five saves in 29 minutes. Mike Taylor did not record a save in 16 minutes, and Patrick O'Keefe added two stops in 15 minutes of action.

Junior All-America midfielder Andy Murray scored two of his three goals in the opening quarter as the Sea Gulls built a 6-0 lead. Boyer tallied twice in the second quarter as the Gulls scored four more times to lead 10-0 at halftime.

Boyer scored seven of SU's 10 goals in the third quarter. Sophomore Chris Phillips (Media, PA/Penncrest HS) assisted on four of the goals in the quarter, and finished with seven assists in the game.

Junior Mike Ricucci added his second goal of the game during a 3-0 fourth-quarter for Salisbury. The Sea Gulls outshot Catholic 51-10, and allowed the Cardinals (0-1) just three shots in the second half.
