Salisbury vs. Gettysburg

The Game Story:
Salisbury, Md - Senior Josh Bergey and sophomore Cory O'Neil scored three goals each and four other Sea Gulls scored twice apiece as #1 ranked Salisbury defeated #5 Gettysburg 17-2 in a non-conference game at home.

Junior Kevin Gemmell (2g-2a) scored twice and Dan Boyer (2g), Chris Phillips (2g-3a) and Bergey scored once each as Salisbury jumped to a 5-0 lead and led 6-1 after one quarter. Bergey's second goal and two markers by O'Neil in the second quarter pushed SU's advantage to 9-1 at halftime.

Salisbury (10-0 overall) continued its domination in the third quarter, outshooting Gettysburg 16-2 in the frame. Senior Chris Lauer (2g-1a) scored twice, Bergey and O'Neil each tallied their third, and Phillips and Boyer each added their second as SU's lead grew to 15-2 after three periods.

Salisbury finished with a 47-18 advantage in total shots and controlled 16 of 22 face-offs in the game. GC's senior goalie Tim McGinnis finished with 16 saves, while Salisbury starter Mike Taylor registered four saves in 45 minutes of action.

Led by defensemen Eric Martin, Evan Howard and Jeff Bigas, the Sea Gulls registered their third game this season in which the opponent scored two goals or less. Salisbury has allowed just seven goals in its last three victories.

Junior Nick Purkat's first quarter goal and freshman Chase Stewart's third period goal accounted for the only Gettysburg scores. The Bullets fall to 7-3 overall.
