|Salisbury, Md - Senior Josh Bergey finished with five goals and two assists and
junior Joe Tamberrino added three second half goals to lead #2 Salisbury to a
17-5 Capital Athletic Conference victory over Mary Washington. Leading 3-2
after one quarter, Salisbury (11-1 overall, 5-0 CAC) outscored Mary Washington
(8-4, 5-1) 14-3 over the final three quarters to hand the Eagles their first
conference loss of the year.
Mary Washington jumped to an early 2-0 lead behind goals from Paul Schutzman
and Matt Wiles (3g). Consecutive goals by Bergey and one from defenseman Jeff
Bigas pushed the Sea Gulls ahead at the end of the quarter. Two goals by
junior Cory O'Neil (2g-1a) and two more goals by Bergey fueled a 5-0 SU spurt
that pushed the advantage to 8-2 with 5:18 remaining in the second quarter.
MWC's Chris Doddridge opened the third quarter scoring, pulling the Eagles to
within 9-4 before Salisbury answered with six straight over the next 14
minutes. Tamberrino scored three consecutive goals during that run, with Bryan
Bradford and Andrew Reed also adding a goal and an assist.
Salisbury finished with a 39-13 advantage in total shots, and controlled 17 of
24 faceoffs in the game. SU's Mike Taylor finished with six saves in goal,
while MWC's Mike D'Eredita registered 13 saves in 53 minutes of action.
