| The Game Story: | |||||
| SALISBURY, MD * The Salisbury University men's lacrosse team took their annual spring break trip and defeated the Saints of St. Lawrence University, 9-7, from Sanford, Florida. Senior Mike Hurley (Cambridge, MD/Cambridge-SD) scored four goals and added two assists to lead Salisbury to their NCAA record, 58th consecutive win. The Sea Gulls and Saints battled hard through the first 30 minutes of the game, as each team was able to find the back of the net three times in the first quarter and twice in the second to go into the break tied at five. The last time Salisbury was tied at halftime was the 2005 National Championship game, as the Sea Gulls and Panthers were knotted at five. Nothing came easy for Salisbury in the second half either. The Sea Gulls only managed two goals in each of the last two quarters, but it was enough to hang on, and hold off the Saints. Senior Jimmy Creighton (Huntington, NY/Huntington) scored two goals for the Gulls while freshman Kylor Berkman (Salisbury, MD/Parkside) added one gold and one assist. Juniors Matt Dassinger (Reisterstown, MD/Franklin) and Eric Bishop (Media, PA/Penncrest) totaled three points on the afternoon, each scoring a goal, and Bishop adding an assist. Salisbury's defense was stout when they were a man down; the defense helped goalie Max Zarchin (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's), 10 saves, and allowed only one goal on five man down opportunities. The Sea Gulls return home from their Florida trip to play host to their Capital Athletic Conference foe, the Spartans of York College (PA) on Tuesday, March 28th. The game is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start. |
