April 23, 2006
The Game Story:
SALSIBURY, MD - The Salisbury University men’s lacrosse team defeated the visiting Seahawks of St. Mary’s College, 12-5, to earn their 12th consecutive Capital Athletic Conference Championship Saturday afternoon from Sea Gull Stadium. The Sea Gulls were led by senior Dan Boyer (Millersville, MD/Mt. St. Joseph’s) who tallied five points on four goals and one assist.

Salisbury jumped out early on St. Mary’s, scoring two quick goals within the first four minutes of the game. Junior Mike Edwards (Baltimore, MD/Calvert Hall) netted the first goal on a feed from Ryan Rohde (Glenmoore, PA/Malvern Prep) and Boyer scored the second on an assist from Chase Caruso (Huntington, NY/Huntington). The Seahawks answered with a goal at the 9:43 mark from Jon Beam, but Salisbury scored three of the next four goals to give them a 5-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Twelve minutes of the second quarter were controlled by the St. Mary’s, but Salisbury scored four goals in the final three minutes to take a 9-4 lead into intermission. The quarter opened with two goals by the Seahawks, one from Dave Mueller and the second from Pat Oliphant. Both Salisbury and St. Mary’s went on a dry spell over the next nine minutes of the quarter as neither team was able to net a goal. However, at the 2:43 mark, Mike Hurley (Cambridge, MD/Cambridge-SD) scored an unassisted goal, and was followed by goals from Matt Dassinger (Reisterstown, MD/Franklin), Rohde, and Boyer to close out the half.

Both squads were even on shots in the first half, totaling 18 shots apiece. Salisbury goalie Max Zarchin (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary’s) stopped six first half shots and finished the game with 14 saves. Rich Barr finished with nine saves for St. Mary’s, four coming in the fist half.

The third quarter saw little action, as Salisbury’s Jimmy Creighton (Huntington, NY/Huntington) scored the lone goal of the quarter on a feed from Hurley.

Salisbury would add two more goals in the fourth quarter, one by Rohde and the other by Boyer, to give the Sea Gulls the 12-5 victory.

Hurley finished with one goal and three assists while Rohde added two of his own goals to go along with his one assist. Mueller, Oliphant, and Cyrus Albertson all finished with two points for St. Mary’s.

The Sea Gulls return to action on Saturday, April 28th for the 2006 “War on the Shore” against the Shoremen of Washington College. The game is being played in Baltimore, MD at M&T Bank Stadium with an 8:30 pm start. Salisbury has won the last four meetings with Washington College.
