Salve Regina vs. Nichols

The Game Story:
NEWPORT, R.I. – Sophomore Brendan Rooney scored seven goals to lead the Salve Regina University men’s lacrosse team to a 15-7 win over Nichols College in The Commonwealth Coast Conference action Tuesday afternoon at Reynolds Field.



Freshman Chris Walker added four goals for the Seahawks, who won their fifth-straight contest to improve to 6-1 (1-0 TCCC) on the season. Sophomores Timothy Ahern (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Brian Donnelly (Weymouth, Mass.) each scored twice for the Bison, who fell to 2-1 (0-1 TCCC) on the season.



The Seahawks raced out to 6-0 lead in the first quarter behind three goals from Rooney, two from Walker and another from senior Ryan Dougherty. The Bison answered the bell in the second quarter, scoring four of the period’s five goals and went into the break trailing, 7-4. Ahern sparked the Bison attack with a pair of goals.



Nichols opened the second-half with two goals to make it a 7-6 contest before a goal Rooney’s fourth tally of the afternoon with 7:15 left in the third gave the Seahawks an 8-6 lead. Donnelly’s second of the afternoon brought the Bison to within one goal again at 8-7 before the Seahawks closed the game on a 7-0 run. Rooney potted three goals while Walker, Doherty, sophomore Michael Augustus and freshman Brendan Carroll each netted one.



The Seahawks outshot the Bison 53-22 on the afternoon and won 15 of 27 face-offs. Senior Brian Walker made nine saves to improve to 6-1 on the season while sophomore Austin Healy (Westford, Mass.) stopped 15 shots.



Nichols travels to Clark Thursday for a 7 p.m. non-conference game before a 4 p.m. TCCC game at Wentworth Saturday.
