SCRANTON, Pa.-Sophomore attacker Dennis Mahon (Medford, N.J./St. Joseph's Prep) scored four goals and assisted on two others to lead The University of Scranton to its third straight win, a 13-8 victory over DeSales University in Middle Atlantic Conference action Saturday afternoon at Fitzpatrick Field.
Kyle Eaton (Old Bridge, N.J./Milford Academy) and Duffy Macken (Mahopac, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) added two goals apiece as the Royals improved to 5-4 overall and moved closer to qualifying for the four-team MAC playoffs with a 4-2 mark in league play. DeSales, which fell to 3-7 overall and 1-4 in the MAC, was led by Brian Kuttler (Doylestown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and Patrick Stringer (Cockeysville, Md./Dulaney) with two goals apiece.
Trailing 3-2 after the first period, the Royals took command of the game by holding the Bulldogs to only one goal. Mahon scored two goals during the second period as Scranton build up a 7-3 lead by intermission and extended the margin to 10-4 after three periods of play.
The Royals also received a goal apiece by Tim Miller (Glen Cove, N.Y./Chamindade), Rob Loderstedt (Mendham, N.J./Mendham), William Ayers (Croton on Hudson, N.Y./John F. Kennedy), Mark Malczynski (Iselin, N.J./St. Joseph's Metuchen), and Brian Malone (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's). Ryan Barratt (Center Valley, Pa./Moravian Academy) had a goal and three assists for DeSales.
Scranton goalie Thomas Kenyon (Chittenango, N.Y/Chittenango) was credited with 11 saves, while DeSales' Joe Devine (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) made a match-high 16.
The Royals will host Centenary College in non-conference action this Tuesday, April 9, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field
