|SCRANTON, Pa.—Sophomore attacker Peter Doran (Glen Head, N.Y./North Shore) took a pass from junior attacker Rob Loderstedt (Mendham, N.J./Mendham) and scored a goal with less than four minutes remaining to lift The University of Scranton to a 9-8 victory over Elmira College in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon at Fitzpatrick Field.|
The Royals, now 1-4, led 7-4 at halftime and 8-6 midway through the fourth period before goals by Elmira’s Andrew Slotnick (Marion, Mass./Williston-Northampton) and Scott Campbell (Markham, Canada/Markham) tied it up at 8-8 with less than nine minutes remaining. After Doran’s goal, the Royals were able to take control of the ball and run out the clock to seal the win.
Senior attacker Tim Miller (Glen Cove, N.Y./Chaminade) scored a game-high three goals—all in the first half—and Loderstedt and senior midfielder William Ayers (Croton on Hudson, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) added a goal and two assists for Scranton. The Royals also received a goal apiece from Todd Cuccia (Larchmont, N.Y./Iona Prep), Jeffrey Lange (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) and Kyle Harbin (Wixom, Mich./Novi)
Sophomore attacker Brad Rennie (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia/Terry Fox), junior attacker Ryan Mikula (Clifton, N.J./Bridgton Academy) and Slotkin led Elmira, now 0-3, with two goals apiece. Junior attacker Alexander Karoly (Brewster, N.Y./Avon Old Farms) had a goal and two assists.
Junior goalkeeper Thomas Kenyon (Chittenango, N.Y./Chittenango) was credited with 13 of Scranton’s 14 saves. The Royals will host SUNY-Plattsburg this Saturday, March 22, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Fitzpatrick Field.
