| The Game Story: | |||||
| WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Gwynedd-Mercy used a dominating third quarter performance on its way to a 15-5 CSAC men's lacrosse victory over Shenandoah. Leading 4-3 at halftime, GMC (6-4, 2-1) scored the first seven goals of the third to take a commanding lead over Shenandoah (0-11, 0-3). The Hornets had brought themselves to within one by scoring all three goals in the second quarter. Senior Courtney Ledden got things started with an unassisted goal at 12:08 before classmate Sean Mack did the same at 7:44. Mack then found Bryan Pope at 3:18 to cut the deficit 4-3. It was Pope that finally snapped the Griffins spurt in the third. He scored unassisted at 2:05. Unfortunately for SU, GMC reeled off the next four goals, including two on extra-man situations, to erase any thoughts of a Shenandoah comeback. Jimmy Noel had the final goal of the game with an unassisted tally at 7:13 of the fourth. Gwynedd-Mercy outshot the Hornets 42-28, had a 37-24 advantage in groundballs and was a dominant 15 of 24 at the faceoff 'x'. SU goalies Tyler Quinn and Brett Holmes combined to make 11 saves. Shenandoah is back in action on Wednesday in a CSAC game against Rosemont. |
