The Game Story:
Saratoga Springs, N.Y.--- The Skidmore College men's lacrosse team clinched a home Liberty League playoff game with a 12-7 win over Rensselaer, Wednesday afternoon at Wachenheim Field.

The Thoroughbreds are a perfect 5-0 in Liberty play and have won six of their last seven to improve to 6-6 overall. The Red Hawks fall to 3-2 and 10-3 overall.

Mike Sampson (South Hamilton, Mass.) gave RPI a 1-0 lead from P.J. McComb (Newington, Conn.) at 13:24 of the first. It would be the final lead of the game for the Red Hawks.

Skidmore answered with six straight goals before Sampson scored with :29 seconds left in the first quarter to make it 6-2 after one. Nick Coppola (Basking Ridge, N.J.) and Chuck McNeil (Spencer, Mass.) each had two goals and an assist in the run.

The teams settled down in the second quarter, with McComb and Skidmore's Cory Barkoff (Syosset, N.Y.) trading goals to make it 7-3 at the half.

Yosef Becher (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.) won the opening face off of the third and took it in for a quick score to put the Thoroughbreds up 8-3. RPI would cut the lead to three on goals by Paul Cerone (Ridgefield, Conn.) and Josh Secora (Evergreen, Colo.), but Skidmore responded again with three straight to put the game away.

Coppola finished with three goals and two assists. Micah Hawes-Sivitz (Conway, Mass.) scored three goals and had an assist, while McNeil had two goals and an assist and Barkoff had two goals.

For RPI, McComb finished with two goals and three assists and Sampson had two goals and an assist.

Skidmore held RPI to 2 -for-14 man-up opportunities, killing off two Red Hawk two-man advantages. The Thoroughbreds were 0-4 man-up.

Also for Skidmore, Becher was 14-21 on face offs, while Scott Grillo (Wellesley, Mass.) had a game-high 11 groundballs. Goalie John Capitani (Garden City, N.J.) had 14 saves.

John Thibdeau had eight saves for the Red Hawks in 45:09. Ryan Michels finished with three saves in 14:51.

Skidmore will host one of two Liberty League semifinals on May 4. The Thoroughbreds will travel to St. Lawrence to play for the Liberty League regular-season title on April 28.

RPI has also clinched a Liberty League tournament berth and will close out the regular-season at Clarkson on Saturday.
