Skidmore vs. Saint Lawrence

The Game Story:
Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-- St. Lawrence University scored three goals in a :57 second span of the third quarter on the way to a 9-6 Liberty League men's lacrosse win over Skidmore College, Saturday afternoon at Skidmore Stadium.

The Thoroughbreds grabbed a 1-0 lead on Tom Spinella's (New Hartford, N.Y.) goal at 11:30 of the first. The Saints scored the next five goals, including two by Ben Prime (Hingham, Mass.) to lead 5-1 in the second. Skidmore pulled within two, 5-3, at the half on goals by Spinella and Matt Ward (Concord, Mass.).

The third period was all St. Lawrence. Cory Yawger (Mendham, N.J.) scored the first of four straight Saint goals at 8:24. Then three quick goals came on tallies by Andy Centauro (Sudbury, Mass.) at 4:10, Kevin Russell (Madison, Conn.) at 3:54, and Brendan Lynch (Medfield, Mass.) at 3:13.

Skidmore mounted a fourth quarter comeback on a pair of goals by Spinella and a solo tallie by Ryan McCafferty (Orlando, Fla.), but St. Lawrence held on for the three-goal win. Spinella finished with four goals.

The Saints improved on their Division III best face-off percentage with P.J. Santora winning 17 of 18.

James deGorter (Ithaca, N.Y.) had 16 saves and seven ground balls for Skidmore (5-5, 1-2 Liberty), while Justin Demuth (Jordan, N.Y.) had 10 saves for St. Lawrence (7-3, 3-0 Liberty).

The Thoroughbreds host Hamilton on April 22 at 2 p.m.
