The Game Story:
Upset bid falls one short for Skidmore lacrosse

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. The Skidmore College men's lacrosse team closed out its season with an 8-7 loss to 12th ranked St. Lawrence in Liberty League action Saturday at Wachenheim Field. The Thoroughbreds finish 7-7 overall and 2-4 in Liberty play, while the Saints end the regular season with a perfect 6-0 league mark and 9-2 overall record.

Will McKee (Old Greenwich, Conn.) played the hero role for St. Lawrence, scoring an unassisted goal to tie the game 7-7 with 6:01 to play in the fourth quarter and the winning goal with 4:39 left.

Skidmore took a 2-1 lead in the first on goals by Tom Levesque (Duxbury, Mass.) and Nick Coppola (Basking Ridge, N.J.). Matt Levesque (Duxbury, Mass.) made it 3-1 from Coppola at 8:19 of the second. St. Lawrence regained the lead with a 3-0 run that started with Alex Slausen's (Shelbourne, Vt.) goal at 3:34 of the second and continued with third period goals by McKee and Kevin Russell (Madison, Conn.).

Skidmore tied it with a goal at 7:08 of the third by Tom Levesque and took a 5-4 lead at 5:42 when Matt Levesque scored from Coppola. The Saints tied it again, 5-5, on McKee's man-up goal with :58 to play in the third.

The Thoroughbreds regained the lead, 6-5, at 14:37 of the fourth when Cory Barkoff (Syosset, N.Y.) set Matt Levesque up for his third goal of the game. Russell scored from Kyle Benton at 9:30 to even the score 6-6. Barkoff withstood a vicious check to put Skidmore back in front, 7-6, with 6:53 left.

That set the stage for McKee's heroics. The sophomore attack circled the cage before scoring the tying goal. The Saints final goal came after Skidmore lost possession on a too many men call with just under five minutes to play.

Matt Levesque finished with three goals. Tom Levesque had two, while Coppola had a goal and two assists. Kevin Robar had six ground balls.

Both goalies were called on to make big saves. John Capitani (Garden City, N.J.) had 11 for the Thoroughbreds, while Thomas Hollingsworth (Wilton, Conn.) stopped 10 shots for the Saints.
