Springfield vs. Stevens Tech

The Game Story:
Springfield, Mass. - March 2, 2013 - Springfield, Mass. – March 2, 2013 – The Springfield College men's lacrosse team jumped out to a 3-0 lead, however the Stevens lacrosse team never looked back and defeated host Springfield College, 16-8, on Stagg Field Saturday afternoon.

The victory moves the #6 ranked Ducks to 4-0 overall while #20 Springfield drops to 1-2.

For the Pride, Ryon Lynch and Dylan Sheehan both tallied four points, while Bryce Serriello added a pair of goals and Kevin Freeman, Kevin Dean, and Ryan Murphy scored one apiece. In goal, Robert Maher tallied 15 saves.

The Ducks were led by Rich Dupras six-point effort as he notched three goals and three helpers. Steven also benefited from four goals each from Nicolas Philippi, Charlie Cronin, and Andrew Scrutchfield. Sean Scrudato added a goal and two assists, and Michael Maroon registered three assists of his own. Goalie Matt Diener added 13 saves to ward off the Pride’s offensive attack.

Springfield was on the attack early, jumping out to a quick 3-0 lead with two goals from Lynch and a man-up goal from Serriello. But Stevens battled back to tie it up at three when Scrutchfield scored on an inside roll doge and snuck a shot past Pride goalie Robert Maher. The teams traded goals to make it 4-4 before Stevens closed the first half on a 4-1 spurt.

Dupras took it all the way off of the Ducks clear to notch the second of his three goals, Cronin scored off of a Springfield turnover, and Philippi made it 8-5 in favor of the visitors heading into the halftime break. The third quarter was a back with forth defensive battle, with Stevens tacking on two more goals from Dupras and Philippi to make it 10-5 heading into the final period. Dean scored a man up goal for the Pride after a rebound to bring Springfield within four, but Scrudato put the Ducks right back up by five less than a minute later.

Sheehan set up Serriello from 15 yards out after Freeman fired a quick pass to Sheehan off a ground ball. The goal brought the Pride back within four, but that was as close as Springfield could get. Dupras set up Cronin for back to back goals in the last 1:14 to cap off the 16-8 win for Stevens.

Springfield is back in action on Wednesday as it heads to Middlebury for a 4:30 p.m. matchup.
