| The Game Story: | |||||
| St. Mary's City, MD -- Senior attacker Pat Schmidt (Chestertown, MD/Queen Anne's) had three goals and two assists Saturday afternoon in leading the St. Mary's College men's lacrosse team to a 12-10 victory over Goucher College in a Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) match-up on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Seahawks improve to 8-5 overall, and 3-2 in the CAC, while the Gophers drop to 7-4 overall, and 4-2 in the CAC. Goucher took advantage of an extra man opportunity 32 seconds into the game and pulled ahead to an early 1-0 lead, off of a goal by freshman midfielder Alan Tiet. The Seahawks responded quickly, scoring 40 seconds later when freshman midfielder Cyrus Albertson (Chevy Chase, MD/St. John's College) ripped a shot past Goucher senior goalkeeper Reeves Craig. St. Mary's would dominate the rest of the first half of play, outscoring Goucher 8-2 in the first thirty minutes. Even though the Gophers dominated the clock and possession in the second half, their hopes for a comeback eventually faded. The Seahawks tallied two more scores in the third quarter, as well as two in the fourth, including two unassisted goals by Schmidt. Goucher would close scoring in the game, with an unassisted goal by freshman midfielder Dave Duff, but it wasn't enough to shut down St. Mary's. Schmidt led the Seahawks in scoring, while junior attacker Dave Mueller (Baltimore, MD/North County) had two goals and two assists in the winning effort. Senior attacker Shane Baxter (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) had three tallies and one assist. For the Seahawks, sophomore goalkeeper Rich Barr (Salisbury, MD/Worcester Prep) had ten saves on 20 shots on goal. Craig had 15 saves for the Gophers, and faced 26 shots on goal in the losing effort. The Seahawks will next be in action this Wednesday, April 13th, when they travel to Catholic University to close out their regular season. The CAC match-up is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. |
