| St. Mary's City, MD -- The #14 St. Mary's (Md.) men's lacrosse team fell to #16 Tufts University, 8-3, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Jumbos improve to 4-1 overall on the season while the Seahawks fall to 5-3 with the loss. Tufts scored the only goals in the first quarter of play on an unassisted goal from junior attacker Mark Warner. Both teams then tallied three goals apiece in the second quarter to give Tufts the 4-3 halftime lead. The Jumbos would then add two goals in each of the third and fourth quarters for the 8-3 final. Senior midfielder Michael Hughes led the Jumbos with three goals on the afternoon. Warner added one goal and one assist as did senior midfielder Mike O'Brien. O'Brien's goal was an extra man goal and proved to be the eventual game-winner. The Jumbos finished the afternoon 2-for-4 on the extra man advantage while the Seahawks were 0-for-8 on the afternoon with the extra man. Senior attacker Dave Mueller (Baltimore, MD/North County) recorded two assists on the afternoon for the Seahawks. Sophomore midfielder Cyrus Albertson (Chevy Chase, MD/St. John's College), sophomore attacker Pat Oliphant (Chatham, NJ/Chatham), and senior midfielder Matt Dryer (Pasadena, MD/Mt. St. Joe) all scored a goal in the contest for St. Mary's. Senior attacker Pat Donovan (Arnold, MD/Spaulding) also picked up an assist for the Seahawks. Freshman goalkeeper Matt Harrigan earned the win for the Jumbos. Harrigan recorded 13 saves in the contest and allowed just three goals against 28 total shots. Junior Rich Barr (Salisbury, MD/Worcester Prep) took the loss for St. Mary's. Barr recorded 18 saves with eight goals against on 39 total shots. The Seahawks will return to action on Wednesday, March 29, when they host Mary Washington in a Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) contest. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. |
