The Game Story:
St. Mary’s City, Md. – Junior attackman Dennis Rosson (Severna Park, Md./Severn) notched a career day with seven goals and nine points as the St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s lacrosse team posted their second consecutive victory with a dominating 17-6 triumph over The College of Wooster in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon.

Attackmen Chris Becraft (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) and Patrick Mull (Fallston, Md./Fallston) had a solid afternoon for the Seahawks (2-2) as well as the duo each tallied two goals and two assists while sophomore attackman Brendan Oster (Mount Airy, Md./Urbana) dished out three assists.

The first period was ‘The Rosson Show’ as he carried St. Mary’s to a 6-0 lead at the end of 15 minutes with four goals while midfielders Bobby Cooke (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) and Ryan Alexander (Laurel, Md./Pallotti) scored the other two goals.

Wooster (2-1) outscored the home team, 3-2, in the second quarter as junior midfielder Joe Suliman (Sherborn, Mass.) picked up back-to-back goals to start the second period. The Seahawks headed into halftime with an 8-3 margin.

Sophomore attackman Casey McGann (Granger, Ind.) paced the Fighting Scots with two goals and an assist while Suliman and senior attackman Dan MacVarish (Hingham, Mass.) each added two goals. The team’s leading scorer, senior attackman Alex Mies (Birmingham, Mich.), had a pair of helpers.

Rosson reemerged in the third stanza for the last three of his goals as the Seahawks netted the first seven goals of the period. Wooster avoided the shutout in the third as MacVarish beat junior goalie Stu Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul’s) with 24 seconds left.

The teams were even in the final quarter as Alexander and attackman J.P. Lennon (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony’s) notched the first two for the Seahawks and then MacVarish and McGann scored the final two.

St. Mary’s dominated the ground ball battle, outhustling the Fighting Scots, 32 to 19, as first-year midfielder Albert Mitchell (Shrewsbury, Mass./Saint John’s) scooped up a game-high 12 ground balls while controlling the face-offs with a 16-of-23 performance.

Junior goalie Stu Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul’s) started in goal for SMCM, making nine saves and allowing five goals in the first three periods before junior Pat Simpson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) came in the fourth period, giving up one goal and turning away three shots.

Sophomore Corey McGann (Granger, Ind.) recorded seven saves in 55:57 while freshman Simon Ebbott-Burg (Brookline, Mass.) had one stop and one goal against in 4:03 of relief as McGann was in the penalty box for unsportsmanlike conduct.

For their next game, the Seahawks will host SUNY Plattsburgh on Sunday, March 14 at 1:00 pm in non-conference action in Seahawk Stadium.
