The Game Story:
HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 22, 2008) Ė Senior attacker John Dolny
scored three goals and added two assists as the Stevens Institute of Technology menís lacrosse team won its third game in a row with a 9-0 shutout against Alfred University on Saturday afternoon at the De Baun Athletic Complex in Hoboken, N.J. Sophomore midfielder Bobby Steinhauser finished with two goals and five ground balls as the Ducks improved to 4-2 (2-0 Empire 8) on the year.

Junior midfielder Matt Keating contributed two goals and an assist in the win. Junior midfielder Alex Heckman added a goal and an assist. Sophomore attacker Daniel Prakopcyk had one goal. Freshman attacker Joey Simone registered two assists. Junior defender Mike Chase picked up five ground balls and caused three turnovers. Freshman defender Zach McHugh added four ground balls.

Meanwhile, Steinhauser was 4-for-5 in faceoffs. Senior attacker/midfielder R.J. Ancona won 5-of-7 faceoffs and collected four ground balls. Freshman goalie Dave Decker made five saves and did not allow a goal in nearly 49 minutes of action. Senior goalie Corey Vaillancourt played the final 11-plus minutes and made one stop.

For Alfred, freshman goalie Adam Schutz (Geneva, N.Y.) had 14 saves in the game. Junior defender Scott Wunsch (Buffalo, N.Y.) picked up five ground balls. Freshman midfielder Joe Gibbs (Whitesboro, N.Y.) added three ground balls and won two faceoffs for the Saxons (1-3, 0-2 Empire 8).

Stevens opened the scoring less than four minutes into the contest as Steinhauser scored an unassisted goal. The Ducks added two more goals later in the quarter to extend the margin to 3-0. First, Dolny found the back of the net off the feed from Heckman. Just 51 seconds later, Keating beat Schutz with a hard shot from just inside the top of the box.

Heckman scored the only goal of the second quarter with 12:24 left before halftime. Dolny added two more goals in the third period to put Stevens in front 6-0. Then, Prakopcyk scored with 26 seconds remaining in the quarter after receiving a nice feed from Keating. The Ducks capped off the scoring with two more goals in the fourth quarter as Keating and Steinhauser both picked up their second goals of the contest.

Stevens out-shot Alfred 46-14 and owned a 38-23 edge in ground balls. The Ducks won 9-of-12 faceoffs and converted on 85.7 percent (18-for-21) of their clearing attempts in the game. The Saxons were 17-for-28 (60.7 percent) in faceoffs.

Coming up next week, Stevens will play a pair of crucial Empire 8 games on the road. First, the Ducks will travel to Oneonta, N.Y., to play Hartwick College on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. On Sunday, March 30, Stevens will play St. John Fisher College at 1 p.m. in Rochester, N.Y.
