Stevens Tech vs. Lynchburg

The Game Story:
HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 13, 2010) Ė The No. 13 Stevens Institute of Technology menís lacrosse team fell 16-10 to Lynchburg College on Saturday afternoon at the De Baun Athletic Complex in Hoboken, N.J. Lynchburg built a 6-0 lead 7:50 into the game and eventually took a 12-3 lead into intermission. The Hornets were led by six points from senior Ethan Farrell (Nantucket, Mass.) and four points apiece from sophomore Dylan Hoff (Chester Springs, Pa.) and sophomore Ben Sauer (Richmond, Va.). Junior Chris Laurita led the Ducks (4-1) with three goals and two assists while junior Blair Koontz tallied four times.

After falling behind 6-0, Stevens got on the board when Koontz rang the bell but 3:40 later, the Hornets (3-2) pushed the lead back to six. Koontz scored again with 13 seconds in the first, but the Hornets scored four consecutive times to build an 11-2 lead that Stevens could just not overcome.

Stevens did not quit scoring five-straight goals over a span of 13:24 to make it a 13-8 game with 12:48 to play but it was too little too late for the Ducks.

Stevens outshot Lynchburg 33-32 on the day and 23-9 in the second half. The Hornets won the ground-ball battle, 39-28 and also won 19-of-30 face-offs.

Junior goalkeeper Dave Decker took the loss in goal for Stevens. He made nine saves. His counterpart, sophomore Franc Cook (Milton, Del.), stopped 10 shots and earned the win.

Duck junior Zach McHugh picked up nine ground balls and caused a team-high three turnovers. Junior Ted Pfeifer caused three turnovers, and sophomore Charlie DeCarlo scooped up five ground balls and won nine of the 17 face-offs he took.

Farrell scored three goals and picked up nine ground balls for Lynchburg.
