|PURCHASE, N.Y. – Sophomore attack Mark Bielicky (Martinsville, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) scored a season-high seven goals and freshman attack John Dolny (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) added two goals and seven assists as eighth-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology earned a 20-6 win over Manhattanville College on Wednesday afternoon in a Knickerbocker Lacrosse Conference game.|
Stevens (8-2, 3-0 Knickerbocker) broke open a tie game by outscoring Manhattanville (3-7, 0-3 Knickerbocker) 8-1 in the second quarter.
Stevens never trailed in the game. Manhattanville received a goal by freshman Luke Dorfman to tie the game at 2-2 with 1:12 left in the first quarter. The Ducks scored three goals in a span of 55 seconds early in the second quarter to take control. Sophomore midfielder Alex Richards (Beaverton, Ore./Century) gave Stevens the lead with 13:20 left. Sophomore attack Joe Van Sickle (Hampton, N.J./Peddie School) followed just 14 seconds later and Bielicky finished off a pass from Dolny with 12:25 left to increase the lead to 5-2.
Dorfman scored his second goal at the 10:47 mark to bring the Valiants within two, but the Ducks scored the next five goals to open up a 10-3 lead at halftime. Stevens also outscored Manhattanville 10-3 in the second half.
Richards also finished with two goals while freshman attack Gianni Galante (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) had two goals and one assist.
Stevens held a commanding 61-21 advantage in shots and also won 21 of 28 faceoffs. Sophomore Jack Dunderdale (Ridgefield, Conn./Immaculate) and freshmen Corey Vaillancourt (Lincoln Park, N.J./Boonton) and Pat Cavanaugh (Laurel, Md./Atholton) combined for eight saves in net for Stevens. Senior Alex Pientka stopped 19 shots for Manhattanville.
Stevens is back in action on Saturday, April 16, when it hosts Maritime College in a Knickerbocker Lacrosse Conference game beginning at 2:30 p.m.
