| HOBOKEN, N.J. - Freshman attack Mark Bielicky (Martinsville,
N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) scored five goals and senior midfielder Brian
Lalli (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton) had four goals and one assist to lead
Stevens Institute of Technology to a 20-6 win over Montclair State on
Saturday afternoon in a Knickerbocker Lacrosse Conference game at DeBaun
Field.
Stevens (6-2, 3-0 Knickerbocker) scored the first nine goals of the game and built an 11-1 lead at halftime. Montclair State falls to 7-2 overall and 2-2 in conference play. Bielicky, who scored four of his five goals in the first half, put Stevens in front with an unassisted goal 1:26 into the game. Five different players scored goals in the final 6:07 of the first quarter as the Ducks opened up a 6-0 lead after the one period. Montclair State finally got on the scoreboard with 48 seconds left in the second quarter when junior attack Kevin Gondres (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) scored off an assist junior midfielder Brian Fischer (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood). Stevens answered just eight seconds later when Bielicky finished off a pass from sophomore Rich Benson (Rehoboth Beach, Del./Cape Henlopen). Lalli scored his second extra-man goal of the game four seconds before halftime to give the Ducks an 11-1 lead at the break. Gondres scored five of Montclair State's six goals - four coming in the second half. Sophomore attack John Della Pesca (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) added an extra-man goal for the Red Hawks with 5:44 left in the third quarter. Stevens, which held a 53-32 advantage in shots, also received three goals and three assists from Benson. Senior midfielder Matt Kuppe (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley) had one goal and a season-high seven assists. Sophomore midfielder Jay Wells (North Bennington, Vt./Mount Anthony Union) won 21 of 28 face-offs and picked up 16 ground balls for the Ducks. Stevens is back in action on Saturday, April 17, with a 1 p.m. Knickerbocker game at New York Maritime. Montclair State plays a 7 p.m. non-conference game at Susquehanna on Monday, April 12. |
