| HOBOKEN, N.J. - The
Stevens Institute of Technology men?s lacrosse team used a quick start and a strong
defensive effort in beating Richard Stockton College 13-6 in a Knickerbocker Lacrosse
Conference game on Wednesday night at DeBaun Field. Junior attack Matt Kuppe
(Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley) scored four goals and added an assist to lead Stevens.
Stevens (5-4, 3-0 KLC) scored three goals in the first 2:47. The Ducks led 5-0 after the first quarter and extended their lead to 6-0 before Richard Stockton (4-3, 2-2 KLC) scored midway through the second quarter. Kuppe and senior attack Mike Baumbach (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) scored two goals each in the opening quarter. After falling behind 6-0, Stockton scored four of the next five goals to pull within three. Sophomore Anthony Severino?s second goal of the game, with 11:37 left in the third quarter cut the Stevens lead to 7-4. The Ospreys got no closer as the Ducks responded with five straight goals. Stevens freshman Stephen Pascone (Selkirk, N.Y./Albany Academy) scored with 2:01 left in the third quarter to halt the Stockton momentum. Junior midfielder Erik Reckdenwald (Glen Aubrey, N.Y./Whitney Point) scored twice in the fourth quarter as Stevens extended its lead to 12-4. The Ducks held a 54-26 advantage in shots. Junior goalkeeper Matt Cannon (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) stopped 10 shots for Stevens. Sophomore defenseman Jim Mitchel (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) also limited Stockton attack James Kole, the conference?s leading scorer, to just one goal. Stevens returns to action on Saturday, April 5, with a noon Knickerbocker game at Manhattanville. |
