The Game Story:
HOBOKEN, N.J. - Senior attack Mike Baumbach (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) scored five goals, including four straight in the second half to lead Stevens Institute of Technology to an 11-4 win over Swarthmore College on Saturday in a non-conference men?s lacrosse game at DeBaun Field. The game was the season-opener for the Ducks. Stevens snapped a tie game midway through the third quarter and scored the final seven goals of the game. Swarthmore drops to 1-1.

Swarthmore junior Joe DeSimone scored with 9:22 left in the third quarter to tie the game at 4-4. Baumbach then scored three straight goals in a span of three minutes in the third quarter to help Stevens take control. Junior attack Brian Lalli (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton) assisted on the first two goals. Baumbach added his fourth straight goal with 7:00 left in the fourth quarter to extend the lead to four. Junior midfielder Erik Reckdenwald (Glen Aubrey, N.Y./Whitney Point) added a man-down goal before junior attack Matt Kuppe (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley) closed out the scoring with a pair of goals in the final four minutes.

Kuppe, who finished with four goals and one assist, also scored consecutive goals in the first quarter to help Stevens erase a 2-1 deficit.

Haverford held early leads of 1-0 and 2-1 on goals by sophomore attack Jeff Donlea and sophomore midfielder Tim Chryssikos.

Stevens held a 38-31 advantage in shots. Junior goalkeeper Matt Cannon (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) stopped 12 shots for the Ducks. Sophomore Ryan Croken made 16 saves for the Garnet Tide.

Stevens is next in action on Wednesday, March 5, with a 3:30 p.m. Knickerbocker Conference game at CCNY.
